Fogged windows can be very dangerous, especially when trying to unpark and when driving at high speeds. Fogging happens when there is a difference in temperature and humidity of the air inside and outside of the car. Below, you can find several tips on how to quickly and easily defog your windows and eliminate the factors that contribute to more intense fogging.

Wash windows regularly

Regular window washing not only improves visibility but is also the first step in combating foggy windows. Keep both the exterior and interior glass clean, as clean windows are less prone to fogging.

Anti-fog products

After cleaning the windows, consider using anti-fog products. You can find various brands available at affordable prices. This small investment can be very helpful.

Air conditioning system

The quickest and easiest method is to activate the special defogging mode using your car’s air conditioning system. Check your user manual to see if your vehicle has this functionality. Avoid using recirculated air, as you want to expel moist air.

Balance the temperatures

If it’s warm and humid outside, start by using the windshield wipers to remove condensation from the external surface. Then try to balance the temperature inside and outside the car. If necessary, reduce the cooling to a minimum or turn off the air conditioning.

Use the heating properly

If it’s cold outside and your car doesn’t have air conditioning, turn on the heater. Set the temperature and fan speed to maximum, directing warm air toward the windows.

Remove all wet objects

Any object that remains wet or damp can contribute to window fogging. Check for leaks in the weatherstripping and inspect for any damage that allows water to enter the cabin or trunk.

Replace the cabin filter

If the cabin filter is clogged and dirty, it won’t be able to expel moisture from the cabin. As a result, unexpected window fogging occurs. Check if the issue is related to the cabin filter, and if so, it’s necessary to replace it.

Recently replaced windows

If you’ve recently replaced the windows in your car, it’s possible that they haven’t been properly installed, allowing water to seep through. For window replacement and installation, it’s best to rely on a qualified service center that can handle the job professionally.

Our advice is that if you notice any irregularities on the car, contact one of our partner services from the TotalEnergies Workshop Concept.
