Like gearboxes, differentials in motor vehicles also belong to gears for which there is a special class of lubricants. Differentials can be located at the front or rear end of the vehicle, while some models have differentials at both ends. If you have a front differential with a transmission in the car, the rear differential will use a different type of oil. Be sure to consult the instructions that came with the vehicle, or contact your car mechanic.
